Ice Cafe @ Victoria Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Cool off at Ice Cafe, one of the latest hit in Penang that takes the definition of 'cool' to a whole new level. If the idea of freezing yourself while enjoying a serving of icy cold sweet treat intrigues you, you should really check it out. Ice Cafe is situated on the second floor of a building along Victoria Street (above Phantamania Penang); as you walk up the stairs, you will notice that the stickers are indicating that there's a drop in temperature. True enough, we felt the cold breeze blowing right smack to our face as we walked up. Soon, you will arrive at the entrance to Ice Cafe that resembles castle door. Push the door open and you will find yourself in a magical land of ice with igloo, ice bed, and everything cold but they are real though, those are just for decorative purposes. While it did indicate that the temperature was around 10 degree Celsius, we did not think it was that cold, probably a little lower than 20 degree Celsius. The entrance to Ice Cafe is free but visitors are expect to at least order a drink or icy treat during the stay at the cafe.

Mango Snowflake (Rm 10/ small)

Kiwi + Grape Snowflake with Ice Bowl (Rm 15)

As if the temperature is not cold enough, Ice Cafe decided to cool you off further. One unique feature about the Snowflake in Ice Cafe is that it is served using a Ice Bowl but really, that's all about it. The texture of the Snowflake was coarse and was not near to anything like Snowflake. It was something like our local Ice Kacang, doused with flavored Syrup and topped it off with fresh Fruits. The Kiwi + Grape Snowflake was odd- it evokes my childhood memories of visiting Indian Barber Shop for some reason (maybe the combination of Syrup smelled like Indian sweet scent). It was extremely sweet and the flavors were artificial.

The Mango Snowflake fared slightly better, at least the Mango flavored was not as sweet as the Kiwi + Grape Snowflake. Also, the overall flavor was more refreshing but no, it was not something that we would like to have again. All in all, the food was a let down but considering the fact that they have placed great attention to the interior decoration, the place is still worth a visit (for those who have yet to visit).
