Thonglor @ Icon City, Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

Thonglor, one of the most hipstery and vibrant places at Bangkok, Thailand; a restaurant with similar name has recently opened in Icon City, Bukit Mertajam. It did not surprise us when it was revealed to be Thai restaurant. Thonglor has a fantastic options for Thai cuisine, featuring a wide selection of quintessential Thai eats (the usual Tom Yum, Thai Salad, Thai Stir Fry dishes etc). The interior decor is cozy and the brilliantly spaced; the cement tables were huge and accommodating, there are large tables that could easily fit in more than 10 diners. Prices are wallet-friendly so you need not worrying the cost of the meal would burst your wallet. While not all dishes we had were outstanding, we were keen to check out some other Thai dishes they can offer. When you are in the mood for some saliva-stimulating Thai food, be sure to check the place out.

Mango Spicy Salad (Rm 8/ small)

Chicken Pad Thai (Rm 8/ small)

We skipped the frequently-ordered items at Thonglor and went for the uncommon ones; the Chicken Pad Thai was rather disappointing. The texture was not right, instead of the chewy resilient Pad Thai, we were given some seemingly soft and mushy Koay Teow. While the Wok Hei was present, something was missing for the Pad Thai... perhaps Chicken was not the right choice.

Mango Spicy Salad on the other hand, was palatable. The Mango was at its perfectly suitable state- not too ripen nor raw; just perfect for that tinge of acidic and absolute crunchiness. It was expertly seasoned (with Chilies too) and topped with julienned Onions and deep fried Anchovies. Though simple, we thought it was a good starter to kick start the meal.

Mango Ice Cream (Rm 5) and Coconut Ice Cream (Rm 4)

We blamed the sultry hot weather for having us craved for an icy treat. Their Coconut Ice Cream was alright, though it could be better. It lacked of the creamy-milky factor and the Coconut aroma was weak either. Same goes to their Mango Ice Cream except with a few slices of fresh Mangoes and a spoonful of Coconut Cream.
