It's not easy to survive for many years in the food business; Ah Kok, the Hokkien Prawn Mee specialist has made it despite of the ubiquitous Hokkien Mee stalls in the vicinity. This Hokkien Mee specialist at Raja Uda is well-established and has been receiving positive responses from the neighborhood. Ah Kok has a simple setup and the menu is straight-forward; only two products are sold here: Hokkien Prawn Mee and Loh Mee. No frills needed, the pull factor is perhaps, the sweet and addictive Seafood broth as well as the wide variety of add-ons. It is inexpensive and most comforting, a type of food that one can eat on a regular basis. If you always have an appetite for Hokkien Prawn Noodles and happen to be around, do drop by and check out Ah Kok's signature Hokkien Prawn Noodles.
Dry Hokkien Mee (Rm 3.80 for small/ additional Rm 1 for Braised Chicken Feet)
Soup Hokkien Mee (Rm 3.80 for small/ additional Rm 2 for Pork Ribs/ additional Rm 2 for Pork Intestines)
We had both Dry and Soup versions of Hokkien Mee; the former one was served in a concoction of Hokkien Prawn broth and Dark Soy Sauce while the latter one was the usual Hokkien Prawn Noodles. The Dry version was rather odd (at least for me), the Dark Soy Sauce seemed to overshadow the fragrance of the broth. It did not give me the impression that I was eating a bowl of Hokkien Mee. The soup version on the other hand, was better. The soup possessed the quintessential smokey-Prawn fragrance that comes in a red-orange hue. The broth with red-orange hue was brimming with flavors- the natural flavor and sweetness of the crustacean can be easily discerned. Ah Kok seems to be very generous with the broth and portion. Not the best around but slightly better than average.
