AMex Mexican Cuisine @ One Precinct, Bayan Baru, Penang.

Mexican Cuisine has been pretty uncommon in Penang ever since then, Habanero was one of them which opened its door few months back. Penangites have more options now with the opening of AMex Mexican Cuisine housed within One Precinct, opposite to Lunarich. One can find a wide variety of Mexican food there at some very affordable prices. The only drawback might be, not too authentic. I could not even find a piece of Jalapeno chilies (one of the soul ingredients for Mexican food) in all the dishes served, I was told that they did include Jalapenos in their menu but due to customers' feed back, they had to reluctantly withdraw the chilies. Well, I guess the restaurateur should stick to the original menu instead of trying to localize all the dishes. I hope to see and try some of their "original" dishes during my next visit though. There are still some improvements needed on the serving speed (probably the restaurant was still new and slow due to lack of manpower) and ambiance of the restaurant. The place was dimly lit and some customers had to use the torch function of their phones to look at the menu. Nevertheless, this place offers some decent Mexican food, Burrito, Arco, Quesadilla, Taco, Fajita, Nachos, Churros, you name it, they have it; do try it out and let me know what do you think in the comment column!

The meal started off with an entree of Chips & Salsas (Rm 6.50) which comes in a rather huge portion. I was anticipating for some Guacamole but what I've got was Chips flooded with Mayonnaise and Cheese Sauce. I guess it is justifiable with the price of Rm 6.50. It comes with some form of their home made Pico De Gallo (2 types) which consisted of chopped Onions and Tomatoes along with some herbs. The other type consists of chopped Onions, Corns and canned Pineapples. It was a pretty good starter but do note that the Chips will turn soggy if not consuming fast.

This delicate Quesadilla Chipotle Chicken (Regular- Rm 7) is a noteworthy choice if you are a fan of cheese. The Quesadilla was served to us warm and slightly crispy on the outer layer. It has some Capsicum, Onions, Grilled Chicken and Cheddar Cheese being sandwiched between those Tortillas. I love the flavors but it would be ideal if they could add Chicken for a meatier bite and of course, some Jalapeno Chilies will be great too. The set comes with some Mayonnaise and Barbecue Sauce, not too fond about these two especially the Barbecue sauce as it tasted diluted and watery. You may opt for their Habanero Chilies sauce though (available in 4 types).

There are types of Tacos available, the soft and the hard Tacos while I had this Soft Taco with Chipotle Grilled Chicken (Rm 8 for 2 pieces). The Tacos were a bit soggy some time after taking photographs probably they did not drain the vegetables enough, the overall flavor was okay-average but it will be better if they could add in more Cheese and Chicken for a more cheesy and meaty bite. I found myself enjoying their Quesadilla more than these Tacos.

Churros (Rm 6.50 with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream) are extremely rare in Penang, most of my friends have never heard nor tried these mouth-watering Spanish Doughnuts before, the fried-dough pastry is best complemented by Ice Cream and melted Chocolate. I was skeptical in ordering one as my previous experience with Churros Royale was pretty bad but I have decided to give and it turned out to be pretty good. The freshly made crispy Churros were well complemented by the icy cold Vanilla Ice Cream; I did request for some of their Chocolate though but I must say that I don't like it, it was rich but not creamy to my liking. As much as I like the hot and cold combination but the Churros were not as authentic (lacked of some flavors, probably Cinnamon) as the one I had back in Perth- San Churros. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the dessert very much.
