Kong Bee Lee (广美利) Noodle Station (Pan Mee) @ Taman Kheng Tian, Penang.

Pan Mee has always been one of my all time favorites, reason was due to the springiness of the noodles and the sweetness incorporated into the soup from one of the main ingredients- anchovies. Simplicity is the best right ? Anyway, Kong Bee Lee Noodle Station is a newly opened restaurant situated at Jalan Van Praagh, Taman Kheng Tian (Old Town Perak Road is just a stone-throw distance away), it offers a wide variety of Pan Mee at very economical prices, some of the more notable and unique ones are Curry Chicken Pan Mee, Dumplings Pan Mee, Black Pepper Pan Mee and their signature Pan Mee- Fried Pork Pan Mee. Kong Bee Lee was previously a food stall located near to Pulau Tikus wet market, I was also being told that all of their noodles do not contain Lye-water (碱水). Price-wise, I would say that most of the noodles here are pretty cheap and reasonably priced. Ample parking spaces will be available at the area (although some walking might be required) but please beware of the Night Market/Pasar Malam which will be held at this area on every Friday night. The entire area will be flooded with regular night market patrons, hence, finding parkings will be very troublesome.

Pan Mee (soup version, Rm 4.90, *with additional noodles added* Rm 1.50). In Kong Bee Lee, with just an additional Rm 1.50, one can opt to have some of the "additional" ingredients added, namely Pork Meat Balls, Extra Noodles, Poached Egg etc. Most of them will be listed in the menu, if not, please do ask them for more information. With extra noodles added, the Pan Mee comes in a very huge portion, and a generous amount of deep fried anchovies and black fungus added. The soup was very flavorful and robust in the flavorful of anchovies. The Pan Mee was not as springy as I thought they would be, it could be due to the time taken for me to shoot the photo. When it comes to Soup version of Pan Mee, chilies play a very important role, or rather, the soul of the whole dish. There were a total of three times of chilies available, the usual chopped Chili Padi, Sambal and the Chinese X.O. sauce (spicy seafood sauce). As much as I adore those Chili Padi, extra marks will be added for them if they were to provide me with some of the crunchy chilies I had at Face To Face Noodle House. Nevertheless, it was still a very decent Pan Mee.

Pan Mee (Dry Version, Rm 4.90 *no extra noodles added*). To my surprise, the Dry Version of Pan Mee was very springy and bouncy, in fact, much springier than the Soup version. It comes with a small bowl of the anchovies soup as well. The sauce used to mix the noodles was pretty good either, complemented the Pan Mee well. Recommended.

Similarly to the Dry Version of Pan Mee, this was their Fried Pork Pan Mee (Rm 6.90), the noodles possessed an al-dente texture and it comes with one small bowl of anchovies soup. What makes this dish more unique was the extra Fried Pork topped. The toothsome Fried Pork was first marinated with spices and deep fried till perfection. However, some of us find the pork a bit over-cooked and was dry. My mom loves this version a lot. Recommended to Pork Lovers.

Drinks/beverages are very affordable here, we had Chrysanthemum Tea (cold, Rm 2.50), Sour Plum (cold, Rm2.50), Sugar Cane Herbal Tea (cold, Rm2.50) and their Ice Blended Mocha (Rm 7.90). The best thing was all of them came in a rather big cup.
