Harvest Inn @ Irrawaddy Road, Penang.

Having trouble finding cheap and good western food in Penang ? Well, here's a recommendation to my readers, Harvest Inn is a very good place with good ambiance and good quality of food, the restaurant serves western food with affordable and reasonable prices. Finding such good restaurant that serves western food has never been an easy task especially those restaurants that have no service charge and government tax. Located near to Burmah Road, Irrawaddy Road was a small and hidden road just right beside Chow Thye Road. The area was famous of delicious and affordable fine cuisine, namely Ivy's Nyonya Kitchen. Harvest Inn has always been my choice for cheap and good western food, the only draw back was the place always been packed with people especially during weekends. The service was not satisfying due to the  heavy customer flow and limited workers. We have been waiting for more than 45 minutes before the arrival of our food.  Advance reservations are strongly recommended to avoid disappointments. During dinner, you can opt to top up Rm5.50 to your main course to add on a bowl soup of the day, a dessert and a cup of tea (be it peach tea, ice lemon tea, tea or coffee).

The soup of the day for that night was cream of mushroom. It comes together with a small piece of bread and butter. The soup was decent, the mushroom flavor was quite strong too, the soup was creamy and smooth. The mushrooms were well blended into the soup, no big chunks of mushrooms can be seen.

Chicken Cordon Bleu (Rm 14.90). The portion was okay but the chicken was okay only. It has nothing special at all where I can find this anywhere and anytime. There were some mashed potatoes being placed below the chicken too, the mashed potatoes were good, smooth and tasted good. The vegetables were really weird, as in to see such big pieces being placed together with the chicken. Somehow the vegetables were rather hard to chew and tasteless.

Spicy Olio Spaghetti (Rm 17.90) It comes in such a big portion topped with a generous amount of fresh seafood. I was rather disappointed with the chilies being used by them, instead of red pepper flakes and garlic, they used the normal green chilies instead. Although the spiciness was still there, but it lacks of a certain aroma which was supposed to be the essence of the whole dish. The seafood was, very fresh indeed especially the gigantic prawns. You can totally tell how fresh was the prawns by biting into it.  Recommended.

Grilled Almond Fish (Rm 15.90) The fish fillet was pasted with thin almond slices and deep fried to perfection. The fish was then topped with some sort of mushroom sauce. My friend complaint that the fish was a bit too dried out and the almonds seemed to be creating a rough texture instead. Some potato wedges were provided too.

Black Pepper Steak (Rm 23.90) Upon request, the steak was prepared medium-well. Although it was not well done but the texture somehow was quite rough probably due to the using of unsuitable part of steak. Would be much more better if they are using some imported beef or you can opt to reduce the cooking temperature for the beef to remain the juiciness and tenderness. The taste was somehow quite good and the steak was quite thick either. Definitely worth the money.

The dessert that coming along with the set dinner. You will be asked if you would prefer cake or fruit jelly. A scoop of vanila ice cream will be added too. The ice cream was very smooth and contained a rather strong vanila flavor. Totally works well with the cakes and fruit jelly.
