Gues Xiangs Restaurant (五谷香,steamboat) @ Bay Avenue, Penang.

Steamboat has been the all time favourite for Penangite, seeing this as an opportunity, another new steamboat outlet has been opened in Bay Avenue, the shop lots right beside Queensbay Mall. Get to know this restaurant via Ezi voucher as they were having promotion where for just Rm 19.90, you get to enjoy a steamboat set for two (normal price is Rm39.90). Aside from the attractive promotion, you can also purchase a maximum number of 5 types of steamboat ingredients with a promotional price of Rm 3.50 for each type instead of their normal price which is Rm 4.90.

2 cups of ice lemon tea were also included in the package, the ice lemon tea was not too sweet nor sour and was just nice for me.

2 types of soup bases will be provided, the usual tom yum soup and chicken stock. The tom yum was not too sour nor its too salty, just nice as a soup base of steamboat.

3 types of dipping sauce will also be given, the normal chili sauce, sambal chili sauce and some sourish green sauce that possesses a very strong celery flavor.

2 big plates of mouth watering steamboat ingredients were nicely presented to us. Basically the set includes scallops, mussels, young corn, sausages, seafood toufu, crab stick, meat ball, enoki mushrooms, udon, fish balls, dumplings, prawns, chicken meat, squid, and some vegetables. A bowl of white rice and a block of instant noodles.

The scallops were quite fresh, but the mussels were rather disappointing. Not to mention they were small in size, but I do bit some sand too, obviously they were not rinsed with water thoroughly.

Move on to the 5 types of additional ingredients, as mentioned, with a promotional price of Rm3.50, you get to purchase up to 5 type of steamboat ingredient (normal price of Rm4.90). The picture shows the seafood toufu (normal price Rm 4.90, promotional price Rm3.50) that I've ordered, very crunchy yet tasty seafood toufu. They come in a rather huge size too compared to what I had previously.

Its guaranteed that you will walk out the restaurant with a big belly as you can order as much of noodles as you like. Concerning the steamboat ingredients given were just okay for me (I am a big eater), I've decided to order an additional portion of Udon (normal price Rm2). I would rather to have this than the block of instant noodles considering udon is healthier.

I am a big fan of these sliced clam, also known as "abalone" (normal price Rm4.90). The portion was a bit small considering the price, there were only 6 pieces given to us, I could have bought a packet of these with just Rm8 out there in the wet market.

The usual fish dumplings(normal price of Rm4.90 too) that can be found in steamboat. Although some fish dumplings were also provided in the set, but I still prefer to add on more of them.

Taiwan sausage (normal price Rm4.90) I find this not as worth as I thought it would be since there was only 1 sausage given to us, with Rm4.90, I would definitely expect for more.
