Hameediyah Restaurant @ Campbell Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Crowned as one of the best Nasi Kandars and the oldest Nasi Kandar establishment in Penang, Hameediyah has been serving gourmands for more than a decade. The restaurant has been churning out delicious curries since 1907... using recipes passed down from previous generations. The proprietor insists on using freshly ground herbs (no commercial paste is used); all Chefs are to follow the recipes and procedures accordingly. At any times, the restaurant would have around 35 types of curries on offer (apart from those made to order dishes on the menu) with their Beef Rendang, Chicken Kapitan, Ayam Bawang amongst the popular options. The good quality control is one of the key reasons that the restaurant could withstand the test of time. Over the years, the restaurant has served customers from all walks of life (both locals and foreigners) and a place for both casual dining or any family occasions.

Many Thanks to Hameediyah for hosting us that afternoon.

Owner- Mr Seeni Pakir and Head Chef- Mohamad Idris

Hameediyah Penang has 2 dining spaces at present, both are situated at Campbell Street... few doors away to each other. The restaurant that has all the Nasi Kandar and Murtabak action is where it all started... the branch few doors away is a newly opened space to offer a more comfortable (air-conditioned) space for diners to enjoy their meal. While the curry specialist maintains most of its classic, traditional curries, they have been introducing quite an amount of new dishes to cater to the younger market (like Cheese Murtabak). Mind you though, the place is often thronged with eager diners, queuing patiently to have a taste on the original Nasi Kandar.

Curry Duck (Rm 15 to 20/ depending on size)

Fried Flower Crabs (Rm 18 per piece)

Curry Lamb Shank (Rm 30)

Beef Rendang

Roasted Turkey (Rm 25 to Rm 30/ thigh)

Fried Prawns (Rm 30 per piece)

Signature Curry Fish Head (Rm 30 to Rm 50)

Nasi Briyani

Cheese Murtabak

Apart from the genuinely friendly service- in which the servers recognize their regulars and always up for a chat; the restaurant has quite a number of worth-savoring choices. Menu highlights include gigantic Prawns, spiced Crabs, Lamb Shank, Curry Fish Head and Beef Rendang... all are perfectly spooned over rice. The Beef Rendang is a particular winner... with rich and in-depth flavors. There is also a good range of vegetarian options if you must know.
