"The Second" is a social enterprise, a non-profit cafe that deserves more attention and support from the public. The initiative is started by PACTS Schools... the proceeds from the cafe churns to funding children in rural areas in Miri and Penang to study in the child-centered education of PACTS Schools. A stone's throw distance away from Olive Tree Hotel, The Second can be found right next to Arang Coffee (previously Kum Kei). Like most cafes, the place offers the standard cafe fare and setting; with a mix of local elements. Despite the prices are on the higher side (for charity purposes anyway), the serving portion is well-justified.

Budget-watchers would be glad to know that The Second offers wallet-friendly Set Lunch menu... starting from Rm 10.90 and comes with a drink. The Fettuccine... part of the Set Lunch menu was okay but the Pasta was slightly overcooked and the sauce was a little watered down. The other mains we had- Barnyard Fowl and The Egg Royale were both equally great. The former choice comes in a huge portion with grilled Chicken served atop of mashed Potato and greens... with barbecue sauce. The Chicken was juicy-tender and the mashed was nicely done. Unlike the usual Egg Benedict, The Egg Royale has a nice twist to it.... with Pesto sauce added; offering a herbaceous, refreshing touch to the creamy, luscious dish. Both were equally delicious in its own ways.
