Halab Restaurant @ Chulia Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Previously a bar, this place has turned into a glitzy, modern space; tucked in a bungalow along the bustling Chulia Street, Halab Restaurant is a new eatery that serves mishmash of Middle Eastern dishes; expect to find traditional classics like Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Shawarma and grilled Meat entrees etc.  Step in the restaurant and you will find yourself in a spacious, comfortable and modernly designed spot; it will certainly take you some time to flip through the menu due to the great variety. Prices are on the higher side but the huge serving portion justifies the price tag. Pleasant space to dine-in over a vast Mediterranean food, though the service could be more attentive and friendly. Worth checking out if you are in the mood for some delicious Briyani in a more comfortable setting.

Mixed Appetizer A- Hummus/ Baba Ghanoush/ Muhammarah/ Moutabal/ Grape Leaves (Rm 40)

Chicken Briyani (Rm 25)

Halab Mix Grills (Rm 55)

Dragon Fruit Juice (Rm 14)

We started by having a mixture of their Appetizers, served with thin Pita bread; the Hummus was nicely done... creamy smooth with reasonable seasoning. Baba Ghanoush was not too bad we found the smokiness overpowered the natural flavor of the Eggplant. Muhammarah was a nice uncommon twist, though a little over-seasoned. A great start to be shared amongst few diners.

Carnivores would be excited to see the Halab Mix Grills... a platter with a variety of Meat and Seafood including Lamb, Chicken, Prawns and some greens. All the meats were beautifully seasoned and cooked... perfectly tender and palatable. We had our share with the Briyani... the star dish of the day. The long grain Rice was beyond amazing; it packed a powerful punch to it, mostly due to its Herbs. The texture was great and even better with the aid of their slightly acidic gravy. The Chicken that came along with the Briyani dish on the other hand, was a tad too dry to our liking.
