Sri Pangkor Cafeteria @ Sri Pangkor Condominium, Pulau Tikus, Penang.

This cafe is the best kept secret for Sri Pangkor Condominium's residents... only operate for few hours in a day, Sri Pangkor Cafeteria is manned by an old couple with more than 30 years of culinary experience. They are one of the lunch box suppliers for some of the Japanese schools and communities here in Penang. It's certainly a challenge to work in such a constraint space but they have managed to roll out an extensive menu... covering many Japanese delights. Expect most of the classics to be on the list and the prices to be more wallet-friendly as compared to established restaurants. The dining corner is cozily set up with comfortable chairs and tables, but they are pretty limited to be sure to arrive early or reserve your spot by making reservations. A handy tip... Sri Pangkor Condominium has visitor parking lots, simply inform the security that you are visiting the cafeteria and show them your driving license (for verification purposes), you will then be allowed to park at the visitors' parking space.

Hiyashi Chuka (Rm 15.80)

Unagi Kabayaki Set (Rm 33.80)

Japanese Gyoza (Rm 10)

Sri Pangkor Salad (Rm 8)

Expect a variety of home-styled cooking at Sri Pangkor Cafeteria, dishes are healthier and less-seasoned over here. We started off with Sri Pangkor Salad... a basket of fresh Greens dressed with Japanese Wafu dressing with a Ginger touch, followed by sizzling hot Gyoza with juicy meat filling and crisp skin. The serving portion was huge... value for money kinda portion. We did not like Hiyashi Chuku, though the al-denteness of the Ramen was spot on, the sauce was a little too vinegarish to our liking. It would be better if the dish carries more umami-ness. The Unagi Kabayaki on the other hand, was tummy-pleasing. The fish was tender and skillfully cooked with the sweet Japanese sauce. The meat to fat ratio was just perfect and the flavor-combo was beyond amazing. It's a steal for that portion to be priced at that rate.

Ume Lime Juice (Rm 2.50) and Iced Lemon Tea (Rm 2.50)
