The Morning After @ Design Village, Batu Kawan, Penang.

With presence in Penang International Airport, The Morning After should not be new to coffee lovers. The cafe at Penang International Airport is relatively small and does not offer a big menu (as far as mains are concerned). The brand has recently extended its business operation, opening a branch at Design Village... with full-fledged menu. It has quite substantial items on offer, from some familiar dishes like Big Breakfast, Pasta, Pizza to some uncommonly seen dishes (like savory Crepes etc). Prices are on the higher side (imagine Pasta priced at Rm 40 per serving) but the air-conditioned cafe can be decent place to stretch your shopping legs. The Morning After can be found at the Food Street, right next to KFC and opposite to Dave's Deli at Design Village Penang.

Bangers & Mash (Rm 23)

The Dream Team (Rm 26)

American Dream 2.0 (Rm 30.20)

Beef Burger (Rm 31.20)

Though Bangers & Mash is a simple dish but it's not a common dish in Penang cafes. The Morning After's did management to meet our expectations. They were generous with the Sausages, served over a bed of Mashed and Brown sauce. The Sausages however, were unlikely made fresh but the bouncy texture was lovely, it worked perfectly well with the soft-creamy Mashed Potato while the Brown sauce offered a sleek salinity to the dish. The remaining dishes were less-satisfactory. The patty of the Beef Burger was overcooked, it was a little too dry to our liking... taste-wise, it was disappointingly average. Likewise, the Hamburger Steak served in the American Dream 2.0 was equally overcooked; it was so hard as though we were chewing edible rock. Scrambled Egg was slightly overcooked but we can stomach that; there were other elements like sauteed Button Mushrooms, baked Beans and Sausage. Speaking of disappointment, the worst was The Dream Team... though the presentation may seem earth-shaking, the actual taste was a great disappointment. The filling was scarce, as though we were having bread in lieu of proper dips with meat-elements. For Rm 26, we thought it was a rip-off.

  2. There is a branch near my place too and the food didn't leave a strong impression to me as well.
