Eté Café @ Lebuh Carnavon, Georgetown, Penang.

** Eté Café has since moved to a new location, the new address is: 25, Lorong Carnavon, 10100, Georgetown, Penang. **

Eté Café, a quiet yet humble cafe well hidden beside the bustling road of Georgetown. It took us some efforts before we were able to locate this cafe, to find Eté Café, simply locate the Police Station at Lebuh Carnavon, this place is facing the Police Station and the T Junction of Pesara Claimant. Eté Café serves no mains but only desserts, they are famous of their home-made Macaroons as well as French Pastries and freshly brewed Coffees. However, most of their desserts are highly priced; Macaroons being the best seller, will be sold like hot cakes, unfortunately, we were not able to get ourselves some during our visit. Despite I have no complaints for the service, the lack of air-conditioning can be frustrating for the heat-intolerant and the cafe can be quite warm during afternoon. I will see myself coming back for their Macaroons but probably more for novelty.

Intrigued by the flavor, we've decided to go for this Green Tea Creme Brulee (Rm 15) which was heated before serving to us. The Creme Brulee has a very thin layer of caramelized top, giving it a pleasant burnt aroma to the dessert. Considering the Green Tea flavor was rather intense, it leaves a bitter-note towards the end which can be unpleasant for some. Nevertheless, the Creme Brulee was too eggy and not light enough to our liking, it was also slightly too sweet for my palates.

A huge disappointment comes with this Mushroom Quiche (Rm 10); unlike the one I had at 42 La Boheme, the Quiche here lacked of the creamy texture and thick bite. I did not enjoy the crust either, which was way too flaky and dry to my liking. In fact, it tasted like Pizza instead of Quiche. The earthy flavor of the Mushrooms was there but it was not strong enough to my liking.

We had a pot of White Peach Oolong Tea (白桃乌龙茶) for Rm 10 per pot; every additional cup will incur an extra charge of Rm 5 which can be grueling to the wallet. However, the White Peach Oolong Tea did not disappoint us with a very distinctive and fragrant Peach flavor, it was refreshing and goes perfectly with the sweet treats.
