Dragon Phoenix Seafood @ Genting Cafe, Farlim, Penang.

I am a regular patron at Farlim/Paya Terubong area due to the night market and sports stadium nearby, while I was patronizing the area, I was amazed by the customer flow of this cafe. Did some research over the internet and was introduced by Sam from Eatoutsam that this cafe (Dragon Phoenix Seafood) serves Cheap and Good Chu Char (煮炒). They do serve a wide variety of dishes and their specialties of the day/week will be written on their white board, which will be placed right in front of their stall. Their way of preparing dishes was more to the Thai style I believe, and most of the dishes were reasonably priced. You can expect some good seafood dishes from Dragon Phoenix too. Its not hard to find this cafe, its facing (or next to) a green organic bread shop (same row as Maybank) and behind the field where the night market is usually be held. You can even find this Lok Lok Rojak stall right opposite to this cafe too. Food quality was overall impressive and you might want to expect a massive customer traffic during weekends at this cafe, but worry not, their serving speed was unbelievably fast and there will be ample parking spaces around the area (although some walk might be needed).

Goku Raku Ramen @ Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang.

In the recent festive month of December, 2011, there were 2 new shopping malls(Precinct 10 and Gurney Paragon Mall) with a lot of Food and Beverage outlets opened in Penang, I had my attempt on Sushi Zento at Precinct 10 earlier ago and I always wanted to try this famous Goku Raku Ramen which has gained its good reputation via the outlet in Mid Valley Megamall (Kuala Lumpur). Recommended by a lot of food bloggers (based in K.L.) about their thick and creamy Ramen broth. Summarized from their official website, " The pork, chicken and fish mixed broth were simmered to perfection for 48hours to bring out its exquisite taste". The newly opened Penang outlet is situated at Gurney Paragon Mall, which located along Gurney Drive and a few steps away from Gurney Plaza. You may park your car at Gurney Plaza and walk to Gurney Paragon Mall if you are unfamiliar with the new building. Service was so-so during my visit, the employees seem to be so confused with their work, wrong orders sent to my table and I requested for their WiFi password, but the waiter seemed to be ignorant (telling me in an unclear and simple manner) and I had to ask for a second time. Price-wise, is slightly on the higher side, moreover, they are charging 10% service charge and 6% government tax.

Saturday High Tea Buffet @ Naza Talyya Hotel, Tanjung Bungah, Penang.

I was somehow attracted by the cheaply priced online voucher deal at Groupon few weeks ago, as such, I've decided to buy some and thinking no harm trying since the vouchers were considerably cheap. The normal price for this Saturday High Tea buffet was Rm34.70 (inclusive of government tax and service charge), but I have bought it at Rm16.90 only, do note that senior citizens and children are required to pay Rm12.90 only. In case you are wondering where is Naza Talyya Hotel, its located at Tanjung Bungah, right behind Viva Dim Sum Delight, you will have to take a turn into the small road and walk until the end. Ambiance was decent as the restaurant has a breath taking scenery- facing the sea of Tanjung Bungah, so does a nicely designed swimming pool. Diners can opt to have a swim at the swimming pool too but you are required to notify the restaurant manager first during booking. Food choices were very limited, but the overall food quality was consistent and rather satisfying. The waiters were attentive in providing service and my overall dining experience was a enjoyable one but I find it so-so only if I were to pay full amount for the buffet, however, its extremely worth the value if you are paying as a senior citizen.

Kissa Koyotei @ Hutton Lane, Penang.

Finding a Japanese restaurant in Penang is not tough at all, especially with all these new Japanese restaurants mushrooming these days, but finding one with more unique features is not easy at all. Introducing Kissa Koyotei Japanese Restaurant, which has all their waitresses dress as maid (maid dresses). Located at Hutton Lane, right behind New World Park food court; food choices are a lot in Kissa Koyotei and the ambiance is very good, a background music of Japanese song was played throughout my visit. Price-wise, is on the expensive side, particularly the service charge and government tax adding to your bill. Service was not satisfying, the restaurant seemed to have a management problem where they have failed in allocating manpower, the waitresses were so confused and were too busy with their work.

KhunThai (坤泰) @ Teluk Kumbar, Penang.

If you are a hardcore fan of Thai cuisine/Thai food, you should have at least heard of the name, Khun Thai. Khun Thai has opened its very first restaurant at mainland (Butterworth) many years ago, and recently, in fact, few months ago, they have opened another new branch at Teluk Kumbar, Penang. Located at far north of Bayan Lepas is where Teluk Kumbar situated. Going Khun Thai should not be too hard, in fact, from Penang International Airport, go straight up for around 5mins, or until you see a sign board, directing you the direction where Khun Thai is located, follow the sign board and it should be fine. You do not have to worry about the sign board, as they are huge enough for you to find them. Price-wise, I find it reasonable as they do not have any service charge nor government tax. As for the service, it might be a bit chaotic if there is high traffic of customers at the restaurant, particularly during weekends. Expect some mosquitoes and flying ants around the area as the place is more to the 'kampung" style and its surrounded by grass. Sea-view from the restaurant is possible if you are sitting near to the beach side. They do have a lot of fresh live seafood, do tell them what you are looking for and quote the price first before ordering. Ample parking space is available right in front of the restaurant.

Jeff & Wind Western Delights @ Sungai Dua, Penang.

*** This eatery has ceased its operation since then.***

Being a regular patron in this area (my college is just nearby only), I am pretty aware of the new restaurants coming up here. Came across to this Jeff & Wind Western Delights few days ago, its located at the place where the pasar malam (night market) on Saturday is usually at, it should not be too hard to locate this place as its facing the main road of Sungai Dua and they do have an eye-catching banner hanging right in front of their restaurant. Jeff & Wind Western Delights is a newly opened restaurant serving western delights mainly, and it's being managed by two young owners-- Jeffrey and Wind Seow. Wide range of choices available as well, they do not serve Western food only but they do serve some rice set during lunch hour and they are actually very reasonably priced. Ambiance was not too shabby and some parking space can be found around the area (you might need to walk further up to Vanda Business Park). Attentive service was given by an old aunty serving us during our visit. They do provide a space for customers to host birthday parties or any parties on first floor of their restaurant as well, for more information on that, do call and ask them personally. Moreover, they do have discounts of 10% during their entire opening month (until the end of May) on ala-carte items.

Terubong Seafood (阿水海鲜) @ Paya Terubong, Penang.

If you are staying in Air Itam/Farlim/Paya Terubong area, you have probably heard of this "chu char" (煮炒) place already. Its very famous among the residents around that area as the place is always loaded with people especially during dinner time. Terubong Seafood is located at Jalan Paya Terubong, facing Zi Zai Restaurant and right beside Paya Terubong's Bomba Station. They serve a wide selection of freshly-caught seafood, especially in terms of fish, they had at least eight types of fish for us to choose from during my visit to this place. Aside from the fresh seafood, Terubong Seafood is also well known for its reasonable price. Service was a bit slow during my visit but probably due to high traffic of customers, parking-wise, was very convenient for us as there were ample parking space available right outside of the restaurant itself. To order, one needs to pick your choice of seafood at the ordering kiosk right outside of the restaurant and the uncle there will take your order, do ask for recommendations and he will guides/assists you on what's fresh on that day and what method of cooking will be the best. You can even roughly quote the price first before ordering.

43 Cafe @ Sungai Dua, Penang.

It was actually my first time when it comes to pork burgers, so I was invited to this 43 Cafe, which situated at Jalan Sungai Dua, right opposite to the side door of University of Science Malaysia (USM). 43 Cafe serves pork burgers, together with some home cooked dishes such as Satay, Mushroom soup, Barbecue Chicken Wings etc.... Their healthy way of preparing the pork burgers is what attracted me the most, with no MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) and less oil used, it feels like everything was cooked by your own mummy. The owner operates the business in his own house, so there would not be any sign boards being displayed. To find 43 Cafe, try to locate the side door of USM at Jalan Sungai Dua, and find a way to a stretch of shop houses that provide photocopy services, 43 Cafe is just right at the corner. Do expect a slower service since there are only two of them working (especially during peak hours). Price-wise, will be very reasonable and economical as their targeted customers are the students studying in USM. The drawbacks will be the ambiance, choices of food and the business hour which starts from evening.

Bite Sensation @ Times Square, Penang.

If you are looking for a place with absolutely good ambiance and environment to chill out or spend some quality time with friends or families but are bored of going places like Starbucks, Coffee Bean, you might want to try this place out. Bite Sensation is a newly opened bakery/cake house located at Ground Floor of Penang Times Square, right beside Sweet 16, facing Birch Plaza.  The ambiance was so good that makes me feel like sleeping over the couch, there were two couples of couch available just for your comfort.  Price-wise, was fair and reasonable, in fact, more economical than chain outlets like Starbucks. Service was good, typically because of a very polite cashier at the counter providing me some useful information. Aside from serving cakes and some awesome beverages, they do sell freshly baked breads and pastries as well but I would like to highlight about their unique and creative desserts to my readers, some of the more special ones are Chocolate Lava (some sort of chocolate brownies topped with melted chocolate syrup), Poached Pear with Wine, and Creme Brulee. They do serve main course like Pizza as well. Prices vary, but they do have some promotions if you wish to savor all these desserts.
