Opened in mid 2025, Lee’s Signature Fish 小李酸菜鱼 has built a strong following in Penang, and it’s easy to see why the outlet is often extremely busy, especially during peak meal hours. The clear crowd favourite is their Signature Suan Cai Fish, served in a tangy, appetizing broth that keeps tables turning quickly thanks to their super-fast service. That said, while the flavours hit familiar comfort notes, the prices feel on the higher side considering the relatively small portion sizes.
The key difference between Lee's Signature Suan Cai Fish and its competitors is the crunch of the pickled Mustard Greens. To our surprise, the texture was addictively crunchy, backed by a bold acidity. The Fish was nothing out of the ordinary, but the broth carried deep-bold flavors; slightly greasier than the rest though. The rest of the dishes were disappointingly average- the Chili Fried Village Chicken was mostly bones with little meat (despite of the good flavor-combo). A mix of hits and misses, if I were to return, it would be solely for the Suan Cai Fish only.
Taste: 7/10 (1-3 bad, 4-7 average, 8-10 good)
