Rembar is a vibrant new restaurant in Georgetown, specializing in modern Southeast Asian flavours. Nestled along Beach Street, it offers a small but carefully curated menu featuring creative dishes with bold taste profiles — think pomelo-duck salad, rendang-spiced open toast, otah, and more. The cocktail list is also standout, with well-crafted drinks that pair nicely with the food. Expect the place to be extremely busy on weekends, often without space for walk-ins, so reservations are highly recommended. Prices are on the higher side, but portion sizes and the quality of ingredients help justify it.

We started with the Sambal Kecap Manis Katsu, one of the appetizers. It was basically Japanese-inspired Chicken cutlet (Katsu) drizzled over Sambal Kicap Manis. The Chicken was nicely cooked with a crisp texture. The sauce was unfortunately a tad too salty to our liking. For tummy filler, we had the Lei Cha which was a pleasant surprise. It is served in the form of Risotto. The one we had was expertly cooked and seasoned. We could taste the unique herbaceous flavor-combo of the Lei Cha; there were also Prawns, Century Eggs and Bonito Flakes as well. It may sound odd but the flavor-combo worked. The Beef Rendang Open Toast was delicious too- a generous amount of Beef Rendang topped on a well-toasted Brioche and served with Pickles. A good and creative touch to the traditional Malay dish. Lastly- the Jumbo Squid felt a little too safe for us.
