Another spot to get your fix of hand-pulled noodles—Mee Tarik China Muslim has opened a branch at Ivory Plaza, Bukit Gambir. Like other Mee Tarik establishments in Penang, the menu centers around Lanzhou-style beef noodles, alongside a selection of Muslim-friendly Chinese dishes. The place is fairly small with limited indoor seating (air-conditioned) for about four tables, and a few more outdoor tables without air-conditioning. A decent halal option in the neighborhood, especially for those craving something warm and filling.
Signature Beef Mee Tarik (Rm 25)
Beef Dumplings (Rm 15)
Chinese Burger (Rm 15)
Appetizers
The signature Mee Tarik comes at a whopping Rm 25, there is another slightly cheaper version at Rm 18. My guess is the additional top up of Beef slices. The broth was clean and easy on the palate but not as flavorful as some Mee Tarik places that I've tried. Noodle texture wise, I thought it was good and the portion was huge. The Dumplings fared better than the noodles. The texture was good and the filling was there. But the best order was probably the Chinese Burger with stir fried minced Beef. The seasoning was spot on and it carried a hint of spiciness. The Burger 'Bun' has a rather dense texture, almost similar to the Chinese Mantou but being deep fried instead. It is very filling and could be eaten as a meal itself.
