Ayam Bakar China 938 窑鸡大王938 @ Vanda Business Park, Sungai Dua, Penang.

Tucked away on the 1st floor of Vanda Business Park, Sungai Dua, Ayam Bakar China is a low-key gem specializing in 窑鸡 (claypot-roasted chicken) and a small selection of Chinese-style noodles. Their seasonings hit the mark — flavourful without being overly greasy or salty, and portions come at affordable prices. While the location isn’t the most visible from the main road, it’s definitely worth the find if you’re in the area and craving a comforting, China-inspired meal.

Claypot-Roasted Chicken (Rm 38.90/ whole bird)

Zha Jiang Noodles (Rm 10.80)

Braised Beef Noodles (Rm 13.80)

Fried Chives Dumpling (Rm 3.50)

We were happy with our noodle choices- both the Beef Noodles and Zha Jiang Noodles were good. The seasonings were spot on and not greasy at all. Serving portions seem to be generous given the prices. The signature Claypot-Roasted Chicken requires a minimum of 38 minute wait. The Chickens are roasted to order, but the wait is definitely worth it. Unlike any Western Roasted Chicken, theirs come with some juices, just like the classic Chinese Beggar's Chicken. The meat was amazingly tender and juicy, with a hint of herbaceous aroma. We had ours scorching hot and fresh out of the oven, it was so good that the 2 of us finished the Chicken in less than 10 minutes. Something similar in any established Chinese restaurant would definitely cost more.
