Tian Xia Cafe 天下茶室 @ Perak Road, Jelutong, Penang.

Tucked in the Jelutong neighborhood and right next to the Perak Road Wet Market,  Tian Xia Cafe 天下茶室 dishes out local Penang delights like Char Koay Teow, Penang White Curry Mee, Koay Teow Th'ng etc. The eatery is housed in a corner lot of a residential house. Menu is not big but more than good enough for a casual quick fix. Dishes are affordably priced with Koay Teow Th'ng priced from RM6. Definitely a spot worth checking out. My suggestion- visit the place after the wet market is closed, it is easier to find yourself a parking lot compared to the mornings.

Char Koay Teow (Rm 8/ with Egg)

Curry Mee (Rm 6.50/ small)

Koay Teow Th'ng (Rm 6/ small)

Boiled Chicken (Rm 8)

Blanched Bean Sprouts (Rm 5.50)

The signature Penang White Curry Mee was good, it has the quintessential flavors with a hint of sweetness. We also liked their homemade Chili Paste which really added a spicy punch to the noodles. The Char Koay Teow was delicious too- the noodles carried a delightful charred aroma (Wok Hei) and everything was perfectly seasoned. The generous addition of fresh Cockles added some marks too. The Koay Teow Th'ng paled in comparison with the former dishes; while we liked the silky smooth Koay Teow noodles, the broth was slightly on the bland to our liking. The Boiled Chicken was good too, it certainly reminded me of Hot Bowl at Rangoon Road. The taste, the texture and even the Chili sauce... were identical (I did check with the proprietor- they are not related). Give it a try.
