Hailed from Cameron Highlands, Cado's outlet in Penang is its second branch (the first outside of Cameron Highlands). The Penang branch can be found at Beach Street and carries the signature Scones. On top of the classic British treat, the cafe also churns out a small Western menu as well as a good selection of cakes.
The poached Egg for the Egg Benedict turned out to be slightly overcooked- the Salted Egg sauce on the Fried Chicken was okay though and it worked well with the Chicken. A pity that the toast at the bottom did not manage to hold the Chicken and was over-soaked. The texture was too moist and soft, would prefer the classic English Muffin or at least, a thickly sliced toast. The Mushroom Basil Pasta was delicious though- there was a hint of earthiness and the creaminess of the Yolk worked. What disappointing was the thinly sliced Smoked Duck Breast- so thin that it felt like Ham. We would appreciate the dish more if fresh Mushrooms can be introduced (can't confirm but we suspect they used dried Shitake Mushroom on this). On the scone- the buttery fragrance was there but we were left underwhelmed in the absence of Clotted Cream (or at least Fresh Cream and certainly not a tiny piece of Butter). The Scone itself was okay, though we would prefer bigger portion (for that price).
Taste: 7/10 (1-3 bad, 4-7 average, 8-10 good)
Address: 372, Beach Street, 10300, Georgetown, Penang.
