Hidden in the Medan Sungai neighborhood (off Jelutong), Tian Tian Guilin Noodles 甜甜桂林米粉 is manned by a China Chinese couple. There is no clear signage, making it extremely easy to miss the place (like we did). The restaurant is just like any normal residential setting, with just a few tables and chairs. The menu features Guilin Noodles as well as some southern Chinese (Sze Chuan-related) delights. Dishes are affordably priced with a decent bowl of noodles priced from Rm 12 onwards...
Guilin Noodles with Braised Beef (Rm 15/ dry)
Guilin Noodles with Chicken (Rm 12/ soup)
Deep Fried Egg (Rm 2)
Century Egg (Rm 10)
La Zi Ji- Sze Chuan Ma La Chicken (Rm 35)
Stir Fried Potatoes with Chilies and Vinegar (Rm 15)
The signature Guilin Noodles come in 2 different variants- dry and soup. For dry, we had the one with braised Beef and it came with condiments like pickled Radish, stir-fried Long Beans, roasted Peanuts, Bamboo shoots etc. We love the texture of the noodles- silky smooth with a good bite. We thought the dry version fared better than the soup version- the flavors were bolder and definitely unique. The soup version was a little too bland to our liking, more like having any other soup noodles. For sides, we had the Century Eggs topped with Chilies, Cilantro and plenty of Black Vinegar; not too shabby but I'd personally prefer a stronger presence of Garlic.
