Enjoy a delicious plant-based meal for a good cause at Pure Lotus Cafe 净莲素食馆 Jalan Utama, right across the Penang General Hospital. The name Pure Lotus will surely ring a bell, they are known to run charity care services to terminally ill cancer patients. Apart from churning some proceeds to Pure Lotus, the cafe also employs staff with health conditions or impairments (OKU according to their website). The cafe is manned by Tina's Kitchen, offering a Nyonya-inspired meat-free menu. Expect to pay slightly more at this place but for a good cause of course...

Hericium Mushroom Satay (Rm 16)
Yam Cake (Rm 13)
Man Tao served with Condensed Milk (Rm 5)
Bee Koh Moi (Rm 8)
We were amazed by the in-depth flavors of the Hericium Mushroom Satay... beautifully marinated with great flavors, almost like the real Satay. The Yam Cake was alright but the addition of Seaweed flakes did add an interesting dimension to the dish. For mains, we had the signature Nasi Ulam, which was good. The herbaceous element was there and the Sambal worked fine as well. The same for the Sambal Petai Rice, quite an unusual item on the menu but Petai lovers will yearn for it. It has great nuttiness and an acquired pungent flavor from the Petai; the Sambal worked well too considering that no Dried Shrimps were added. We were made understood that some of the dishes contain Egg/ Garlic/ Onions, may put in remarks if you prefer not to.
