Amongst the spate of new tenants at Island 88 (previously known as Island Plaza at Tanjung Tokong)- Song Do Korean Restaurant is one of them you need to be aware of. It is probably the first Korean restaurant in Penang that specializes in offering One Whole Chicken Pot (along with some Korean delights like Korean Fried Chicken, Korean Pancakes etc). It is easy to find Song Do, simply enter the main entrance of Island 88 and walk towards Edo Ichi, the Korean restaurant is right behind Edo Ichi and 7 Village Noodle House.
There were just 2 of us so we had the Combo Meal for 2 pax, we were served with a Whole Chicken Pot (one bird of Chicken), a portion of Korean Fried Chicken (choice of Soy Sauce/ Sweet and Spicy/ Seafood Pancake) and 2 drinks of our choices (choose between the Korean canned drinks, except alcohols). For the dips, diners will not be given the opportunity to mix the sauces (so you will miss the fun) but the good part is that everything will be prepared for you. The broth was clean but rich in flavor, it was not greasy at all... very light, comforting and easy on the palate. The Chicken was fresh (albeit smaller in size) and paired well with the spiced Salt and Korean Chili sauce. The Kalguksu was good too, which we added into the broth to cook after we were done with the Chicken. The texture was chewy (might be overly chewy for some) and addictive. The Korean Fried Chicken was part of our combo meal. The portion was big with 5 sets of Chicken Wings and some Fried Tteok. The seasoning was great and the Chicken was nicely cooked. The Combo Set might fit for 3 petite eaters.
