Tai Xiang Chi Thai Cuisine 泰享吃 @ Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

Tai Xiang Chi Thai Cuisine 泰享吃 is a place where you will find inexpensive Thai eats in Bukit Mertajam. Housed in one of the shop lots right next to Lotus Tesco Bukit Mertajam (opposite to AEON BM), the Thai restaurant is especially popular during lunch hours. Dishes are reasonably priced here with big servings. We had some of their dishes and thought there were some hits and misses. This is a good spot for a quick, inexpensive Thai fix nevertheless.

Pad Thai (Rm 13.90)

Stir Fried Vermicelli Noodles with Basil Leaves (Rm 13.90)

Seafood Otak-Otak (Rm 8.90)

Som Tam (Rm 12.90)

Tab Tim Krob (Rm 4.90)

The Som Tam was overly acidic to our liking, there were too much of Lime and lacked of the sweet-sour-spicy balance. The spiciness was rather muted, not exactly the type of Som Tam that we were looking forward to have. Albeit a little wet, the Pad Thai was well-seasoned, we thought the flavor-combo was good either... it would be perfect if it was not that wet. The Stir Fried Vermicelli Noodles with Basil Leaves was alright, it was something similar to ordinary Stir Fried Vermicelli Noodles (the wet version) with a mild Basil aroma. The Tab Tim Krob or Thai Red Ruby dessert was good though. The Coconut Milk was creamy and it was delicately sweetened. The presence of Nangka did add some marks to it and for Rm 4.90, we thought the portion was very good enough for that price.
