Lu Lai Liao 鹵來了 @ Jalan Krian, Georgetown, Penang.

Probably the only place to enjoy a bowl of southern Koay Teow Kia would be at Lu Lai Liao 鹵來了... previously occupied a stall at Terengganu Road but it has since relocated to this new location at Jalan Krian, Georgetown. The menu has expanded, from the signature braised goods to a bigger menu offering Chinese stir fry dishes. Good thing is that the prices remain reasonable. The new place is now air-conditioned and offers a more comfortable space to enjoy a meal.

Braised Tofu (Rm 2 each) and Koay Teow Kia (Rm 1.50)

Braised Chicken and Duck (Rm 10/ small)

Braised Egg (Rm 1.50 each)

Tai Lok Mee (Rm 10/ small)

Having tried a few popular establishments in Johor Bahru, Lu Lai Liao's seemed a little different. The broth carried more herbaceous aroma while the ones in Johor Bahru are usually lighter/milder in flavor. Not that it was bad but just stating the difference. Lu Lai Liao's on its own, it was good and tummy-comforting. We did not try the innards (not a fan of those), only the braised Duck and Chicken. Both were good- tender and expertly seasoned. The braised Tofu did not disappoint too, it was silky smooth with a bouncy texture, definitely a good addition to the meal. For something extra, we had the Tai Lok Mee. It was not too shabby on its own but not exactly the real KL-style Tai Lok Mee (though they did add a lot of fried Pork Lards).
