Wooden Wagon @ Beach Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Hidden away from the bustling banking district of Beach Street (Georgetown), Wooden Wagon is one of the tenants at a new business area (converted from an old warehouse) hidden in an alley (right next to Alliance Bank Georgetown). If you are not familiar with the area, it does take a while to locate the place. Maintaining its old industrial-warehouse charm, Wooden Wagon serves a casual Western menu with some worth-a-look choices. The prices are on the higher side but the daily Set Lunch (priced at RM28) proves to be a success. The 3-course Set Lunch with complimentary drink offers a good value in return (though we can't say the set lunch offers great quality), a popular choice for the working crowd working in the vicinity.

[Set Lunch- RM28] Lemon Thyme Chicken Breast (Main)

[Set Lunch- RM28] Wagon's Fried Battered Fish (Main)

[Set Lunch- RM28] Chicken Mushroom Penne (Main)

[Set Lunch] Truffle Shoestring Fries (Starter)

[Set Lunch] Mushroom Cappuccino (Starter)

[Set Lunch] Caesar Salad (Starter)

[Set Lunch] Oriental Garden Salad and Whipped Potato (Sides)

Pizza Margherita (Rm 38)

Pizza Garlic Prawn (Rm 45)

Each Set Lunch comes with an Appetizer, a Main and a Side dish... as well as a complimentary Fruit Punch. For Starters, we thought the Fries were decent and the Caesar Salad was alright. The Mushroom Cappuccino lacked the bold earthy kick and it was a little flat. The Lemon Thyme Chicken Breast was a tad too dry to our liking, but the sauce was good (it saved the dish). The Battered Fish was disappointing, the Batter was overly thick and we were a little underwhelmed with the measly portion. Nothing much to shout over for the sides as well. Rm 28 is a good value but like-wise, the Set Lunch is also Rm28-worth of quality. For sharing, we had the Margherita Pizza and Garlic Prawn Pizza. There were some hits and misses, we enjoyed the flavor combo and thought the Pizzas were carefully seasoned as well. But we did not like the texture, we thought the Pizza base was a little hard to the bite (not as doughy-soft we would have hoped).
