Started as a simple eatery that offers desserts, Luodong 羅東 has received great attention over the years due to its wallet-friendly price tags and aesthetically-pleasing sweet treats like Cakes and Swiss Rolls. The place has managed to transform itself into a café offering full-fledged menu from Taiwanese-influenced appetizers, mains and desserts. It is so popular right now and the place is often full to the brim, getting a table is not easy especially on weekends. Food offering-wise, the menu has some interesting eats... with an array of Taiwanese dishes and a big variety of sweet treats, best of all, all items are affordably priced.
Taro Swiss Roll (Rm 12)
Matcha Chocolate Tart (Rm 12)
Noodles with Minced Meat sauce (Rm 7/ large)
Chinese Soup Noodles (Rm 6/ large)
Braised Tofu (Rm 1.80 each) and Braised Egg (Rm 1.20)
Braised Radish (Rm 2 each) and Braised Chicken Feet (Rm 6)
We started with the savory mains, we had both Noodles with Minced Meat sauce and Chinese Soup Noodles. We thought the former one fared better than the latter one. The minced meat sauce was expertly seasoned and worked well with the round, fat and springy noodles. We added a touch of Chili Oil to the noodle dish and it was lip-smacking. The braised items were all great, we especially enjoyed the braised Tofu. For desserts, we were very excited to try the Taro Swiss Roll... as we thought it was something unusual. But to our dismay, the Taro content was very little and most of it was Cream. We would prefer the filling to be Taro-focused with lesser cream. Like-wise, the Matcha Chocolate Tart was nothing out of the ordinary... more like Brownie with a touch of Matcha flavor.
