Kejap Food @ Klippa Shopping Centre, IKEA Batu Kawan, Penang.

A relatively new Malaysian brand that aims to revolutionize how typical Malaysian food is served- Kejap Food has finally expanded its business operations in the northern region, opening a dine-in place at the new Klippa Shopping Centre (inside the IKEA Batu Kawan building). The Malaysian brand dishes out Malaysians' all time favorites with 100% Halal ingredients sourced within the country. The brand operates quite a number of drive-through outlets in the nation, the branch up north at Batu Kawan Penang is the first branch in Penang and also one of the 2 branches in the entire nation that offers dine-in facilities. Some of their best sellers include Karipap Panas, Popper Udang, Lekor, Kebab Ayam Buttermilk and Nasi Ayam Sambal Pedas; best of all, all food items are affordably priced.

Whether its snacks, small bites or proper meal, Kejap Food has everything on offer. The Karipap Panas is a popular choice- freshly cooked on the spot to ensure absolute freshness, making it suitable for any occasion. The crust is thin and light; while the filling is something that any Malaysian can relate to. For something less-substantial, go for the addictively crispy Popper Udang or crispy-chewy Lekor. If you are in the mood for something healthier, there's the Bubur series where one can assuage the guilt by indulging in comfort food.

The best sellers are the signature Kebab Ayam Buttermilk and the Nasi Ayam Sambal Pedas. The former one has a good, sloppy texture with a burst of vegetable crunch (from the Lettuce). The Chicken is there to offer a good source of Protein as well as the quintessential meat texture. The portion however, fits for those with smaller appetite. The real draw of the latter choice (of Nasi Ayam Sambal Pedas) is the Sambal Pedas, a fitting translation of the local Malaysian Sambal which carries a powerful Chili punch. It works well on the crispy Ayam Goreng with a side of pickled Cucumbers.

The Ice Cream lovers would be excited to learn that Kejap Food offers a childhood icy sweet treat- Roti Ais Krim... with thick slab of Ice Cream being sandwiched with a couple of colorful Toasts; affordably priced at RM2.90 each (or a set of 3 for RM7.90). Otherwise, you can quench the thirst by having their Floats or 3 Layer Teh Tarik/Kopi.
