San By The Three Wines @ Gurney Walk, Penang.

San By The Three Wines at Gurney Walk may seem like a curious little wine retailer but in actual fact, it is a full-fledged restaurant that serves a European-Mediterranean menu. The concept here is a little different as compared to its sister restaurant- The Three Wines at Bay Avenue where the place is more wine-focused (more classic wine labels). San By The Three Wines at Gurney Walk on the other hand, has a bigger food menu and carries natural wine labels. On the food menu, San By The Three Wines offers an array of premium ingredients (including Wagyu and Oysters), small plates and mains.

This post is brought to you by Gurney Walk Penang.

Oyster Combo (Rm 199- 1 dozen of Fresh Oysters + 1 bottle of White)

Seafood Paella (Rm 88)

Grilled Squid with Chimichurri Sauce (Rm 35)

Salmon Carpaccio (Rm 22)

Smoked Duck Breast with Tangy Orange Sauce (Rm 28)

Hakka Pork Belly (Rm 32)

Mussel Pot (Rm 38)

Oyster lovers would be delighted to know that San By The Three Wines offer quality, fresh Oysters (both local and seasonal-imported Oysters from Japan). The RM199 Oyster Combo offers great value in return- with a dozen of fresh Oysters and a bottle of White, just the perfect combo to wind down in the evening. The seasonal Japan Oysters are not available now, but the local fresh Oysters are equally delicious- plump, fresh with better bite. It may not be as creamy as compared to some; the sweetness is bold with a briny touch. The accompanying White Wine (San Telmo Torrontes) is light and easy on the palate, with a mild but discernible sweet fruity-flowery notes.

For something light to go with the wines, the Grilled Squid with Chimichurri sauce is a must try. The Squid is expertly grilled and served with an appetizing, saliva-inducing Chimichurri sauce... perfectly garlicky and addictively mouth-watering. For something tummy-comforting, go for the Mussel Pot. Unlike the usual cream version, this dish is Curry-inspired with a hint of Curry aroma. It is best enjoyed with the crisply toasted Baguette to mop up the sauce. For those who prefer classics, the timeless Hakka Pork Belly is the right dish to go with any beverages.

For something more filling, the Seafood Paella is suitable for sharing. Advance booking is not necessary but a 30-minute wait is required for the preparation of this dish. The Spanish rice is carefully cooked with Seafood broth and slowly simmered to fully accentuate the flavors. It carries the distinctive smokey, alluring crustacean aroma, best enjoyed with a glass of White.
