The North @ Kinta Lane, Georgetown, Penang.

The North at Kinta Lane is one of the latest additions to the Penang cafe and dessert scene, specializing in Dacquoise, a French dessert made from nuts and Meringue. But the cafe has more than desserts to offer, they have a fairly big menu featuring All Day Breakfast items, Pasta dishes as well as some Asian delights. The price points are higher than average but the quality is there. The interior decor is simple but cozy, with 2 floors of air-conditioned seating areas available. For those who are driving, there are a few available parking lots right next to the hotel... complimentary parking for cafe guests. Strategic location and quality food, this place is worth a look (if you don't mind paying a little bit more).

Egg Benedict (Rm 23.90)

Beef Burrito (Rm 25.90)

Matcha Dacquoise (Rm 9.90)

White Chocolate Strawberry Dacquoise (RM 10.90)

Brownie with Bulla Ice Cream (Rm 14.90)

The Egg Ben was pretty good- with a Sourdough Toast served with fresh Avocado, topped with Chicken Bacon and expertly cooked Poached Egg... finished with Hollandaise sauce. Our only complain... the portion was too small to justify the price. Likewise, the Beef Burrito was delicious too. The minced Beef filling was nicely seasoned, it was not overly greasy and worked well with the Greek Salad. For the petite Dacquoise, we had both Matcha and White Chocolate with Strawberry. Both were alright though we found ourselves enjoying Matcha better. The bitterness from the Matcha cuts through the sweetness of the Dacquoise; especially suitable for those who prefer not-too-sweet desserts. Texture wise, it was somewhat between Bread and Cake, a little crumbly but not overly so. Not bad for a change but not our favorite. In fact, we enjoyed their Brownie more. It was rich and chocolaty but not cloyingly sweet. It paired perfectly well with the creamy Bulla Ice Cream.
