Wa Q Yakiniku 和九 @ Precinct 10, Tanjong Tokong, Penang.

A visit to Wa Q Yakiniku 和九 will likely to leave you spoilt for choice, the new Japanese Yakiniku joint is a new venture by the Edo Ichi group. The Yakiniku-focused restaurant is located at Precinct 10 Tanjong Tokong; while they have a big meat menu, there are many other Japanese delights to please all diners as well. The restaurant has a typical Japanese Yakiniku setting with a grill in the centre but unlike most Yakiniku restaurants, Wa Q uses special green Charcoal for a more pleasant odourless dining experience. Dining guests need not worry about the stench after a Yakiniku party as the restaurant is well-equipped with ventilation system as well. Meat lovers would be happy to know that Wa Q offers a wide range of meat and cuts, including the premium Japanese Wagyu Beef and Iberico Pork. The A5 cut is also available but reservation is recommended. Be prepared to pay a little more for the great cuts but rest-assured, the quality lives up to expectation; as the Edo Ichi group of restaurants always do.

3 Kinds of Assorted Meat (Rm 58)

Ninniku Beef Tongue (Rm 43)

Yakiniku Tare Iberico Pork Belly (Rm 33)

Assorted Vegetables (Rm 15)

There are a lot to choose from for the Yakiniku, be it Iberico Pork, Wagyu Beef, Chicken, Duck or even Seafood... with or without marinate. The heat (from the coal fire) is consistent and offers even grills to the meat; there are also attentive servers constantly checking on the fire or grills (burnt grill top will be changed). All ingredients are fresh and we recommend trying their Yakiniku Tare Iberico Pork Belly with delicious pockets of fats sans the Pork stench AND Ninniku Beef Tongue for the bold beefy flavor as well as melt-in-the-mouth texture.

For diners who are looking for something apart from Yakiniku or grills, try their Ramen. Wa Q Yakiniku's Ramen comes in 2 different broth bases- Meat broth and spicy Dried Sakura Shrimp broth. The Beef Ramen may appear to be Beef-based but it can be customized into either meat broth or Shrimp broth. The spicy Shrimp broth carried an addictive-comforting spiciness with slurplicious Ramen noodles. Other tummy filler choice also includes Spicy Minced Pork Rice, a dish that is welcomed by all age range. Assuage the guilt of indulging meat by having a refreshing serving of Salad and Wa Q Salad is the perfect choice. The dressing is a Wafu-inspired dressing with refreshing acidity, topped with nuttiness (Pine Nuts). For small bites or light snacks to go with drinks, the Burdock Root Karaage is as addictive as ever. Otherwise, the Chikuwa Cheese Fried is a good option either. Beer lovers would be glad to know that the happy-hour promotion is still on going, visit the restaurant before 7 pm and you will enjoy chilled, refreshing Suntory Draft Beer at lower rates. For Japanese Rice Wine/ Sake promotion, enjoy 20% discount for any orders of 500 ml and above.
