Canna Cafe @ Sungai Petani, Kedah.

One of the latest places to get a good and budget-friendly Thai meal at Sungai Petani (Kedah) would be Canna Cafe, a Muslim-friendly Thai restaurant. Canna Cafe is fairly new but it has garnered an appreciate following since its opening. The menu is big and features a wide variety of Thai delights. The place is also accommodating for bigger groups, making it ideal for family meals or casual gatherings. Reasonable price points, generous serving portions and authentic Thai flavors are some of the pull factors. Canna Cafe is located near to Laguna Merbok, a short drive from Sungai Petani Utara toll.

Tom Yum Seafood (Rm 28/ small)

Grilled Beef (Rm 29)

Phak Riang (Rm 12)

Som Tum (Rm 12)

Pad Thai Kung (Rm 10.50)

Save for the Pad Thai, we were very happy with all the dishes we had. The Pad Thai was disappointing, they did not use the chewy Pad Thai noodles but local Koay Teow and thus, affecting the texture. The flavors and seasoning was spot on though. We love the Tom Yum Seafood, it ticked all the boxes- spicy, sweet, sour and savory. They were very generous with the serving portion too, this small serving could easily fit for 3-4 diners. Like-wise, the Som Tum packed a powerful punch. The addition of Bird's Eye Chilies was no joke and can be fiery hot for some. The Grilled Beef was a nice addition to our spread. It's certainly not a common dish in many Thai restaurants. While not truly outstanding, we were glad that the Beef was tender and worked well with the Thai sauce served. The dish was a little monotonous towards the end though.
