SO.GO Korean BBQ @ Straits Quay, Penang.

Among the stretch of Korean restaurants in Tanjung Bungah area, SO.GO Korean BBQ is the latest addition at Straits Quay. The Korean restaurant specializes in barbecue... along with some neat selection of Korean delights. Apart from the premium meats and and flavorful marinades, the usage of charcoal grills instead of gas grills is also their selling point. Their cuts of meat are impressive but their ala-carte menu is equally worth trying. There's a variety of tummy-fillers as well as a big alcohol menu; despite on the slight premium price points, the restaurant impresses many with its high focus on quality and authentic Korean dishes.

Striploin (Rm 98/ 250 grams)

Beef Bulgogi Mushroom Jeongol (Rm 88)

Naengmyeon (Rm 25)

Complimentary Ban Chan

We were greeted with a table full of complimentary Ban Chan as soon as we were seated, we were delighted to see the wide variety of Ban Chan- from Egg Roll to the usual Kimchi as well as some appetizing pickled Radish and Radish Kim Chi. Back on the premium meat, we had the Striploin which was nicely cooked over charcoal fire; the outcome was a piece of juicy, tender meat with smoky aroma imbued. We enjoyed ours with some fresh Wasabi and French Sea Salt. We also had a sharing of Beef Bulgogi Mushroom Jeongol, unlike the usual Beef Bulgogi, this rendition of theirs did not turn out as sweet as expected. In fact, the earthy flavor of the Mushrooms was more dominant. The clean soup was slightly under-seasoned to our liking. To complete the Korean BBQ experience, we also had Naengmyeon which we thought it was the star dish of the evening. The soup was perfect and the icy texture was spot on; the texture of the noodles was good either... probably the best Naengmyeon we ever had in Penang.
