Roku Penang @ Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

Found right next to Lim Coffee Bar, Roku Penang is the talk in town due to its visually appealing Tacos presented in two different ways- Nori (Japanese Seaweed) and classic Taco Tortilla. The former one receives great attention over social media for its aesthetically pleasing presentation. Though touted as a Taco Bar, Roku has something else to offer... Japanese-inspired Rice Bowls as well as Quesadillas which work along the line with Tacos. Worth checking out especially if you are looking for something special. 

Small Three Nori Taco (Rm 39/ any 3 from the menu)- Unagi/ Ebi Prawn/ Salmon

Trio Classic Tacos (Rm 29/ any 3 from the menu)- Peri Chicken/ Prawn Ebiko/ Fish Ebiko

For the crispy Nori Taco, we had their "pick any three from the menu" package. The Nori Taco basically has Japanese Rice topped with toppings like Unagi, Salmon, Prawns etc. The toppings and rice combo were pretty much predictable and straight-forward but the winner here was the crispy Nori... which gave the dishes the soul and necessary flavor. We thought the combination was perfect, except the fact that the crispy Nori was inevitably greasy. The classic version was not too shabby but if I must choose, the crispy Nori version stands out. We also had their Salmon Sushi Bowl, which turned out to be something different from what we were expecting. The Salmon was served in small pieces and topped with Mentaiko and served with Avocado, Tamagoyaki and Japanese rice (drizzled with Teriyaki-like sauce). The overall combination was okay, but we would prefer bigger pieces of Salmon, at least not diced up in small cubes... for better texture and flavor. Otherwise, it was alright.
