While it is easy to find good seafood for an island like Penang, it is uncommon a find a good Seafood Bar that dishes out freshly shucked Oysters. Housed in a century-old mansion along Leith Street, Ostrea Oyster and Seafood Bar is The Edison's in-house restaurant. The Edison is a hotel established in July 2016 and has been welcoming guests from all over the world... many are amazed by the beautifully restored and preserved colonial mansion. In the evenings, the in-house restaurant- Ostrea Oyster and Seafood Bar welcomes seafood lovers to a seafood-focused menu. The 6-course Tasting Menu (Rm 168 for one pax) is made up of fuss-free dishes, offering only some carefully-sourced seafood. On top of that, there are also some affordably priced share plates for those who want to go with a drink. It is also noteworthy that the place offers a good Champagne and Wine list.
The 6-Course Tasting Menu is a good start to try some of their signature dishes. It starts off with their proudly sourced fresh Scottish Oysters from Loch Fyne, served with their home-made Mignonette sauce. Diners can also look forward to tasting the burst of sea essence with the following dish- Salmon Roe served with Sour Cream Cheese and fried Potatoes. The following dishes are also carefully crafted, but none are overly seasoned or served with heavy-flavored sauces; the dishes are presented in a way to showcase the flavors from the sea. It is also noteworthy that Ostrea Oyster and Seafood Bar carries some good Champagne labels and it is one of the few restaurants that offers Champagne by flute.
