Kkanbu Oden Soju Bar @ Georgetown, Penang.

While there are quite a few Korean restaurants in town but what sets Kkanbu apart from the others is it places great focuses in alcohols aside from dishing out Korean dishes. Soju fans would be delighted to know that the place has a big selection on the Korean alcohols, along with Korean Rice Wine and Beers. On the food menu, the choices are quite limited and lacked of stomach-filling mains; more like a place suitable for gatherings over alcohols and small portion of food (which suits the theme- Oden Soju Bar). The price points seem to be on the higher side considering the serving portion is not really that huge. Kkanbu Oden Soju Bar can be found at Museum Hotel at Jalan A.S. Mansor.

Oden Set A (Rm 48/ serves 2)

Tteokbokki (Rm 20)

Hot Pepper Garlic Fried Chicken (Rm 26)

Unlike classic Korean Fish Cake Soup, the Oden Set A consists a big variety of Fish Cakes with Fish Balls, Radish included. The broth was flavorful but a little over-seasoned in our opinion. The whole dish was comforting at first but a tad salty towards the end. For Rm48, we thought it was a little overpriced as the portion did not seem to be big. The Tteokbokki was fine- spicy and sweet with all the essential flavors. We also tried their Hot Pepper Garlic Fried Chicken; there were a total 8 pieces of Chicken Wings and Drumettes, but the Korean Hot Pepper sauce was served as a side. The Fried Chicken alone was good but we found it odd when we needed to dip the sauce separately, somehow it did not bring out the essence of Korean Fried Chicken.
