Right next to the entrance to The Blue Mansion (otherwise known as Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion), a small corner of the place has been converted into a food eatery... by the name of Cafe Mangga. Cafe guests need not pay entrance fee to the cafe but may enter from the small entrance right next to the main entrance. Beyond the narrow entrance is a welcoming, cozy outdoorsy seating space before reaching to the cafe. There's an air-conditioned space for the heat intolerant but for those who prefer a more outdoorsy atmosphere, they can opt to be seated on the wooden deck. The main menu features an array of Western items, from the classic Egg Ben to Sandwiches, Toasts, Pancakes or even Pasta; while the sweets are mainly cakes. Some hits and misses for the dishes we ordered but the service needs improvements (we were there on a busy Sunday so probably they did not get used to handling such a big crowd).
Lemon Butter Pancake (Rm 22)
Grilled Chicken Sandwich (Rm 28)
Spaghetti Aglio E Olio (Rm 28)
Many items were not available on our visit... only a handful of options left. Amongst the items we ordered- the Grilled Chicken Sandwich was pretty good, with Grilled Chicken Breast served on 2 thick pieces of Cranberry Sourdough spread with Honey Mustard and Avocado. Albeit slightly rough on texture, the Grilled Chicken was well seasoned and carried a sleek sweetness. Another worth-trying dish would be their Lemon Butter Pancake, served with Gula Melaka. The Pancakes were beautifully cooked... light and fluffy brimming with Lemon flavor. The seemingly promising Gula Melaka combo did not work out, the Gula Melaka was too diluted and unable to provide the expected results. The Spaghetti Aglio E Olio was a complete let down. For Rm 28, we expected more apart from Spaghetti and Cheese Powder. The dish was a little over seasoned and cheesy to our liking as well.
