Kara Kara @ Weld Quay, Georgetown, Penang.

The recent talk of the town- Kara Kara is one of the latest hidden cafes/ bars in town; it runs as a cafe during day time and turns into a happening bar in the evenings. One of the key reasons for Kara Kara's success is its chic, futuristic industrial interior decor with plenty of art sculptures adorning the place. The food menu is quite small- featuring some mains and sweet treats; the beverage menu on the contrary is bigger and that includes alcoholic drinks. Price points are of standard-average but we are not too sure if its a place suitable for casual hangouts or more appropriate as a pub as the seating arrangement is not really too comfortable.

We did not try any of their mains but a couple of their sweet treats- the Watermelon Strawberry Cake was pretty good, the sweetness was well-controlled at minimum and the cake had bold Rose flavor which really added another layer of dimension to the it. The Watermelon was okay and the Sponge was firm, it was overall quite good. The Niko Neko Matcha Cookie on the other hand was nothing out of the ordinary. The Cookie was expectedly chewy but the Matcha flavor did not quite standout. For drinks, we had Pong Crush, a popular trendy Korean drink with Vanilla Ice Cream, Milk topped with the Korean Puffed Rice Snack (also known as Jolly Pong). It was basically milk shake with the Puffed Rice Snack, very straight forward but what they did right was the control of sweetness; it was very easy on the palate and not overly sweetened.
