Gertak Sanggul Tua Pek Kong Seafood 美湖大伯公海鲜 @ Gertak Sanggul, Penang.

Far end at Gertak Sanggul, the fishing village next to Teluk Kumbar has some hidden gems worth excavating, especially for seafood lovers. Opposite to Gertak Sanggul Seafood Fishing Stage is Gertak Sanggul Tua Pek Kong Seafood 美湖大伯公海鲜. The seafood restaurant is found right next to a Tua Pek Kong Temple, facing the beach/ sea. The setup is simple- with some basic tables and chairs on beach sand, there is no proper restaurant setting here and the tables are quite limited making it less-accommodating for big groups. The menu is fairly small- most of the offering would depend on the catch of the day.

Mee Udang (Rm 15)

Mee Sotong (Rm 15)

Blanched Octopuses (Rm 18)

Steamed Stingray with Home-made Sauce (Rm 28)

Steamed Clams with Home-made Sauce (Rm 18)

Steamed Mantis Prawns (Rm 25 for 5)

Stir Fried Green Dragon Chives and Bean Sprouts (Rm 12)

Dishes are cooked using simple and straight-forward methods so the freshness of the Seafood is not over-shadowed. Mee Udang and Mee Sotong are some of their popular dishes. The Mee Udang had 3 huge Prawns served with thick, rich broth with strong presence of Tomato and mild spiciness. While the Yellow Noodles were carefully cooked, we would prefer the dish to have some sliced Onions for the extra crunch. The Mee Sotong shared similar broth but instead of Prawns, we've got some small Octopuses. The Steamed Baby Stingray with Home-made Sauce is also one of the popular dishes. The sauce was delicious- a concoction made of Soy Sauce, Garlic, Chilies and Lime Juice; savory yet offering a refreshing touch to the dish. There were not much meat for the Baby Stingray but the texture was silky smooth and with the sauce, the dish can be addictive. Other dishes were pretty straight-forward, nothing special but none of them disappoint.
