Right smack in Georgetown's central banking district, Meet 1880 Cafe and Bistro is one of the new comers at Church Street. Opened in early September 2020, Meet 1880 is both a cafe and a bistro so you will find 2 different settings- high tables and the usual dining tables, the overall atmosphere feels cozy and can be a cool place for social gatherings. On the food menu, Meet 1880 offers a small Western food menu, with a few handful options of Bruschetta (or Toasts), Mains (mainly meat and fish) and some Pasta dishes. While we thought the price points are of mid-range, the description on the menu seems to be a little different as compared to actual items...

Meet 1880 Cafe and Bistro @ Church Street, Georgetown, Penang.
Grilled Tilapia with Tartar Sauce (Rm 18.90)
Smoked Duck with Brown Sauce Pasta (Rm 21.90)
Herbs Mushroom Bruschetta (Rm 12.90)
For starter, we had the Herbs Mushroom Bruschetta... served on a piece of crusty bread, lightly spread with Avocado and topped with Oyster Mushrooms, Feta Cheese, Cherry Tomatoes, Chick Peans, Sunflower Seeds and Pomegranate. The flavor combo was straight-forward but delicious. Seasoning was minimal but more than enough to bring out the flavors. We were quite shocked to find how they served the Grilled Tilapia with Tartar Sauce. We were expecting Grilled Tilapia but it turned out to be Fried Tilapia with a thin batter. The Fish was greasy and lacked of seasoning, the home-made Tartar Sauce was alright though. Yet another dish with mismatch in description- Smoked Duck with Brown Sauce Pasta; we clearly did not expect Tomato-based sauce when the menu stated Brown Sauce. Though nothing was wrong with the taste, we were quite disappointed with the discrepancies.
