Kirin Sushi @ Jalan Gurdwara, Georgetown, Penang.

Kirin Sushi occupies the most prominent lot along Jalan Gurdwara (and Dato Keramat), it's strategic location makes it impossible to miss. The new Japanese restaurant can be found right opposite to GAMA, at the corner lot of a stretch of new shop lots in the area. Like most Japanese restaurants, Kirin Sushi has an extensive Japanese menu... featuring an extensive range of Sushi, Maki, Yakimono, noodles and Bento set. The place has a limited seating though... at present, it accommodates less than 12 tables (excluding the sushi bar seating). Reasonable pricing, cozy and casual atmosphere... not too shabby for a quick Japanese fix.

We had a few orders of their Sushi and fortunately, none of them disappoint. We like the Tobikko Gunkan... generously topped Tobikko Sushi that has more Tobikko than Sushi rice, a pop of ocean sweetness in the mouth. Ika Geso Shioyaki on the other hand, was a disappointment. The texture was so rubbery that it took us a while to chew them down. The flavor and seasoning was okay, just that the texture was way beyond the strength of our teeth. For mains, we had both Unagi Kabayaki Bento Set and Gyuniku Soba; the former one comes with a lot of sides like Chawanmushi, Sashimi, Miso Soup and Japanese White Rice. All dishes were nicely done and the Unagi was most toothsome. Slightly on the expensive side but at least the quality was good. The Gyuniku Soba was not too shabby either; the soup was nicely done and the Soba was cooked to the right texture. A little pity that the Beef slices were slightly overcooked; other than that, the soup noodle was quite delicious.
