Carnavon Cafe @ Prangin Lane, Georgetown, Penang.

A seemingly curious cafe along Prangin Lane- Carnavon Cafe has a small signage that is not too visible and the entrance door is always closed. Step in the place and you will find yourself in a heritage old house of Georgetown, surrounded with old wooden antiques of chairs and tables; the atmosphere is certainly one that you can only find in a heritage city like Penang. The cake menu is big here but the mains are weak, so it's more like a Coffee over cake place instead of a place that fills the tummy. Quite a cozy place to spend the afternoon but not so much if you are looking for some savory items to munch on.

Watermelon Cake (Rm 16.90)

Honey Cheese Cake (Rm 9)

Summer Fruit Smoothie (Rm 15)

One of the most popular items at Carnavon Cafe is their Watermelon Cake... with fresh Watermelon, Matcha-infused sponge, fresh cream and Strawberry Rose syrup. The combination was refreshing except that the Watermelon flavor was a little subdued. The Rose fragrance was discernible and the whole thing felt light and easy on the palate. The cookie base was not too shabby too, though we did think the flavor-combo was okay, the cake did not really hit us... we thought it was just an "okay" cake. Honey Cheese Cake on the other hand, was a disappointment. Though there was a hint of Honey in the cake, the texture was a tad too heavy to our liking. It was not fluffy nor cheesy, which did not quite fit the theme here.
