Howaitokuren Japanese Restaurant @ Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah, Penang.

Howaitokuren Japanese Restaurant is one of the latest additions to Lembah Permai, like most Japanese restaurants, this place carries a big Japanese menu... featuring quite a great deal of Japanese delights ranging from Sushi, Agemono, Nabe, Ramen and Don. The interior decor however, does not quite reflect the Japanese- theme but rather... a comfortable, well-arranged dining space. While the quality is not top-notch, items are affordably priced. Worth dropping by if you are game for a Japanese meal.

Dashi Tamagoyaki (Rm 7.20)

Salmon Sushi (Rm 4.80) and Shime Saba Sushi (Rm 6.40)

Kappa Maki (Rm 2.40)

Ebiko Sushi (Rm 3.60)

Gyuniku Ramen (Rm 22)

Asari Ramen (Rm 21)

We started with a variety of Sushi... generous cuts on the fish but the Sushi rice was overly vinegared and left a sour end of the bite; it somewhat over-shadowed the seafood sweetness either. We did not the Dashi Tamagoyaki to be good but it turned out to be very delicious and we must concur that it exceeded our expectation. The texture was perfect and the Egg Rolls were reasonably seasoned with discernible Dashi flavor.

For mains, we had Gyuniku Ramen and Asari Ramen, the former one had a bolder meaty flavor while the latter choice carried a milder seafood essence. While we were okay with the broth, we would prefer the Ramen to be thicker... these were too fine to our liking.
