San How Seafood Restaurant 三豪海鲜饭店 @ Sungai Bakap, Penang.

A little off the beaten track, San How Seafood Restaurant 三豪海鲜饭店 can be found near to Hijauan Valdor, a small town at the south of Perai. There is no sign of tourists, just a casual family restaurant serving the local community. The place is known to serve some of the freshest Seafood dishes around... and also its tummy-comforting home-styled cooking. There is a huge Zhu Char menu being displayed on the wall but the regulars would ask for the freshest catch of the day. Prices are very budget-friendly, at least more reasonable than big establishments found on Penang island.

Steamed White Pomfret in Teo Chew Style (Rm 60/ market price)

Curry Prawns (Rm 32/ market price)

Hot Plate Tofu with Seafood (Rm 10)

Stir Fried Vermicelli Rice Noodles (Rm 12/ serves 2 pax)

We basically followed the suggestion from the proprietor and she suggested we had the White Pomfret as they were very fresh on that day. Those who are familiar with the fish would know that it can be very 'fishy' if the fish turns out to be less-fresh. We opted for Teo Chew-styled Steamed Pomfret and the result was amazing. The sauce had a balanced medley of sour, spicy and salty notes; it was clear, clean without burdening the fish... and yes, the fish was very fresh. Equally good was the Curry Prawns... which the dish carried bolder flavors. The Curry sauce was thick and rich... it may be a little salty for some but that's perfectly fine to spoon over rice. The Prawns were fresh and as succulent as they should be. Also not to be missed would be the Stir Fried Vermicelli Rice Noodles... perfectly stir fried with an alluring Wok Hei. The noodles were cooked together with a generous amount of Prawns, Chives and Sprouts... ensuring a mouthful of textures and flavors.
