Clay Cafe @ Summerskye Square, Bayan Lepas, Penang.

One of the first few tenants at Summerskye Square Bayan Lepas (opposite Solaria Square), Clay Cafe sounds like a place that places great focuses in serving Clay-related dishes and by our understanding, it refers to Claypot. At least the interior does not suggest so, it feels like a standard cafe-restaurant setting, with a long table erected in the middle of the restaurant. On the menu, it offers an array of Claypot dishes, Noodle dishes and some Hong Kong-influenced snacks. Though classic flavors are available, the playful ones caught our attention more; some worth-mentioning ones would be Cheesy Kimchi Claypot Rice... which in some way, reminds us of Bibimbap served in Hot Stone Bowl (Korean Mixed Rice).... Though there are Noodle dishes and sides, the selection feels a little weak at the moment.

Tom Yum Chicken Noodles (Rm 15.90)

Lemongrass Chicken Noodles (Rm 14.90)

Classic Claypot Rice (Rm 12.90)

The Big 4 Tofu Fa (Rm 10.90)

We had 2 noodles dishes- Tom Yum Chicken and Lemongrass Chicken; the former one was a misnomer. There was no hint of Tom Yum flavor but instead, the Chicken was marinated with Chinese fermented Bean paste. The overall combo felt a little weak and nothing out of the ordinary. The signature Lemongrass Chicken on the other hand, fared better. It was something similar to Satay, with slightly bolder Lemongrass aroma. The noodles were dressed with Scallion Oil, light Soy sauce and a little Pork Lard. The flavors were pretty straight-forward but we were a little disappointed with the simplicity and lacked of excitement. The Classic Claypot Rice was not any better, the texture was a tad too soft to our liking and the overall concoction felt a little under-seasoned. We see no significant difference between this and those found elsewhere.
