Platform 9&3 Quarter Fine Dining and Cellar @ Magazine Road, Georgetown, Penang.

A dreamy surprise for Harry Potter fans as there is a new magical dining spot in town that offers diners to dine-in amidst the wizarding world. Established in late 2018, Platform 9&3 Quarter is rather obscure and first-time visitors may have a sense of mysterious as they will need to walk in a shop next to the bustling street but without signage, go through a narrow walkway and to discover the whole new world. The front part of the space is converted into a bar, which will turn lively after 10 pm; keep walking and you will find yourself in a classy dining space with comfortable velvet chairs and spacious dining tables; there are also books flying around and wizard-themed knick-knacks on the tables for diners to play with. Though the theme is fairly obvious but the food offering is totally irrelevant to the interior decor. Like most fine-dining restaurants, Platform 9&3 Quarter offers a European-Fusion Chef Tasting menu along with some ala-carte dishes. Definitely a place for occasions or surprises.

Many Thanks to Platform 9&3 Quarter for hosting us.

The Chef Tasting Menu is a prix-fixe menu that changes on rotation basis, the starters and dessert are basically fixed but diners get to choose their preferred main dishes... at different price points. Start fresh by having their Tomato Texture, a beautiful concoction of various Tomato cuts with different texture, made even more refreshing with a touch of Watermelon and Mint. It gets a little serious for Mushroom Texture, the bold earthiness of the starter... along with creamy Hollandaise sauce is set to whet up the appetite.

The surprise does not stop there, Beef Cheek and Cream of Cauliflower Soup are the remaining starters for the Chef to showcase what they have up their sleeves. The former option carries Saffron Ravioli with braised Beef Cheek... unlikely a pair but both work magically. The latter choice offers a luscious, creamy concoction topped with an alluring piece of Foie Gras. The fatty liver adds an unexpected but delightful touch to the creamy soup.

On mains, the Cod Fish and Duck Confit are both unique and delicious in its own ways. The former dish offers a deliciously firm fish without much ostentation... while the latter one comes with a bolder, sweeter flavor. End the evening with a sweet touch by having their Apple Creme Brulee, a sweet custardy dessert with bold milky elements.
