There seems to be a trend amongst the cafes in Penang... to paint things pink. Putting up the attractive feminine color seems to be working for cafe hoppers. Housed in a bungalow along Edgecumbe Road (behind UOB Bank Kelawai), Arteasan Cafe exudes a comfortable, homey vibe as soon as you enter the place... with plenty of pink couches and marble tables; at the end of the place is a private, spacious room overlooking the house compound. While the color combo may seem a little too feminine, we must agree that the eccentric choice is the reason that makes this place unique. As suggested by the name, the place has a great variety of Tea choices... with a blend of Western and local Chinese offering.
Cheesecake Bar (Rm 15)
Chicken & Avocado Sandwich (Rm 15)
Shrimp Aglio E Olio (Rm 26)
We were generally disappointed with the food quality here. Let's start with the Chicken & Avocado Sandwich, the concoction was a tad too dry to our liking and it felt a little bland as well. The Sourdough was not well-toasted, it was a complete let down. The Shrimp Aglio E Olio was alright... at least the texture and flavors were legit but for Rm 26, there were only 4 tiny Shrimps (with a couple of sad Cherry Tomatoes?)... we thought it was a rip-off for that hefty price tag. For sweet treat, the Cheesecake Bar was decent but we thought the cookie crumb overpowered the Cheese, the jam was good though, at least it was not saccharine sweet.
