As You Like HK Chicken Pot 香港隨變燒烤麻辣雞煲 @ Chow Thye Road, Georgetown, Penang.

Hailed from Hong Kong, "As You Like HK Chicken Pot" rides on the Chicken Hot Pot craze and opened up a new branch in Penang. This is not their first Malaysia branch though, the first branch is located in KL area. The branch at Chow Thye Road attracted a great crowd during its first opening week; as hinted by the name, the place offers Chicken Hot Pot... ala Chinese Sze Chuan style. Though it is not uncommon in Penang, As You Like HK Chicken Pot fares better in terms of finer quality as well as cozier dining atmosphere. The prices however, are adjusted accordingly. Worth checking out if you are an ardent fan of Hot Pot and would like to pursue good quality food; not for those with tight budget though.

Chicken Soup Hot (Rm 58/ half bird of Chicken)

Deep Fried Fish Skin (Rm 6/ small)

HK Lobster Ball (Rm 12/ small)

Frozen Tofu (Rm 4/ small)

Home-made Chives Dumplings (Rm 10/ small)

Local Kurobuta Pork Belly (Rm 18)

Spiced Cucumbers (Rm 6/ small)

Home-made Bean Curd Rolls (Rm 10/ small)

The beautiful part about having their Chicken Soup Hot is that you get to choose the intensity of the broth- whether clear or thick; we opted for the thicker version. We believe this affects the salinity of the broth as well. It was overall quite boldly flavored, the Chickens were surprisingly tender with great flavors. Additional dips were not necessary, we did not even ask for Soy sauce... in the fear of the Chicken being overly salty. The accompanying hot pot ingredients were on the premium side, just to name... the HK Lobster Balls cost Rm 3 each but none of them disappoint. Notable choices include the Kurobuta Pork Belly and Chives Dumplings; both were equally delicious in its own way. Though this is not something that we can eat on a regular basis, the superior quality of the ingredients stands out... not too bad for a change provided you have a little budget to spare (for bench-marking sake, there were 3 of us and the bill came up to around Rm 200, including drinks).
