Barry's Cafe @ Bishop Street, Georgetown, Penang.

The retro-sleek design of Barry's Cafe vies for attention, especially when the cafe is surrounded by heaps of financial institutions and offices. While the contrast certainly appeals to the public, the menu is equally interesting. The usual cafe fare is part of the menu but amusingly, there are some Oriental options like Penang Char Koay Teow or stir-fried Japanese Udon as well. On weekdays' lunch, the cafe offers "Set Lunch" at the price of "ala-carte"... though the offer is only valid for orders of Western mains (no Set Lunch for you if you are ordering Char Koay Teow). In the evenings or weekends, the "ala-carte" remains "ala-carte", no Set package would be offered.  New place with plenty of food options, the Set Lunch promotion yields great values; worth checking out if you are in the vicinity.

Stir Fried Japanese Udon with Chicken and Prawns (Rm 18.90)

Bangers & Mash seems to be one of their popular choices amongst the younger crowd. 2 foot-long Sausages were served on a bed of Mashed with a side of Green Peas... doused over luscious gravy. The Mashed was nicely done... silky smooth with creamy texture; the Sausages were not shabby either... with the much-desired bouncy meatiness to it... pretty generous portion to justify the price tag. The Oriental touch of stir-fried Japanese Udon was less-impressive. The texture was somewhat odd as compared to the classic, fat Japanese noodles. It was merely a plate of ordinary stir-fried noodles with nothing to shout over with. Equally disappointingly average were the Burgers... though the pulled Chicken version came slightly more superior than the Fish variation; they did not really hit us.
