JiangHu Edo Restaurant (江户) @ Magazine Road, Georgetown, Penang.

You might not even notice JiangHu Edo's existence, the slightly oddball restaurant situated at Magazine Road (few doors away from Magazine 63) specializes in Japanese-Fusion dishes. Sure the name would ring a bell but many have not even heard/ seen the name; the fact that the place carries no signage makes it even harder for the public to notice. Enter via the main entrance at Magazine Road and make your way to the end of the space... a modern dining hall with minimalist type of elegance where sleek and clean utensils are carefully displayed. JiangHu Edo does not offer big menu but 3 types of course dinners and a list of ala-carte items. Prices are middle-upper range... pretty fine offering, more like a choice for times when you need to seriously impress or for occasions.

Capellini and Uni and Black Caviar (Rm 40)

Smoked Duck Salad (Rm 35)

Maguro & Sesame Seeds (Rm 35)

Seared Beef with Red Wine Sauce (Rm 55)

Special Promo- 6 Oysters with 2 Asahi Beer (Rm 70)

We started off with a special promo.... for Rm 70, we've got ourselves half a dozen of Canadian Oysters and 2 cans of Asahi Beers. The Oysters were freshly shucked... most plump and juicy. We then proceeded to Smoked Duck Salad... a conglomeration of fresh Greens with Tangerine, Pomelo, Quail Eggs and Smoked Duck meat. Pretty standard combination, it did not manage to surprise us.

Maguro and Sesame Seeds were expertly done though... the Tuna was beautifully torched with a delightful burnt aroma while the Sesame Seeds offered a pleasing crunch and alluring aroma; with the accompanying sauce, the combination was palatable. Equally good was Capellini topped with Uni and Black Caviar... al-dente Angel Hair pasta with a burst of Sea-essence. It was not mind-blowing but come' on, what do you expect when you pair Uni and Black Caviar together?

The winning dish was the Seared Beef with Red Wine sauce. My partner in crime did not like rare meat so we had to go for Medium Rare but the texture was still beyond amazing- so tender and meaty, the Red Wine sauce did not overkill the beefy flavor but good enough to provide a touch of flavors to the meat. This was the dish that we enjoyed most that evening.
